State Summary
On June 26th, 2007, Gov. Kulongoski signed the Clean Air Act, which bans smoking in all enclosed public places, including bars, taverns, and restaurants. The new law will also prohibit smoking within 10 feet of entrances, exits, windows that open, and ventilation intakes of workplaces or public places. The law takes effect on Jan. 1st, 2009. The Oregon Smokefree Workplace Law is designed to protect workers from secondhand smoke, which can cause life threatening diseases.
